Skyislands of Mozambique

The Afromontane archipelago of Mozambique form an important, still poorly explored linkage between the better studied Eastern Arc Mountains and the Cape components of the entire Afromontane archipelago. Recent surveys suggest the Mozambican montane sky island forests contain high levels of biodiversity particularly in terms of single site endemics.

What’s special?

Endemic species of Mozambican isolated mountain blocks are at risk of extinction, even before they are discovered, making it critical that these forests receive attention in terms of species documentation and discovery.
